Klavuu White Pearlisation Divine Serum Mist

Something I have always pondered with skin care – Why must the products have such long names? I suppose the longer they are, the more tantalising they become. That’s certainly what happened to me with this mist. Recently at a K-beauty Expo here in Busan, I fawned all over the Klavuu stall, taking away with me some of the items that I’d had my eye on for a while – the Pure Pearlisation Serum, a pack of their beautiful masks, and the Pearlisation Cleanser. But that isn’t what I’m here to review today.

I’d ummed and aahed over the mist in the Pearlisation line whilst at the expo, but the weather was my deciding factor that day – it was throwing it down and somehow I just didn’t feel the need for refreshment after walking through the deluge. However, when this came up as a campaign to test for 0.8 Liter Korea, I was incredibly pleased and signed up immediately. Now, after a little use (0.8 Liter review time frames are short) I can give you some information about this mist I had long been intrigued by.

The can it comes in is quite small and you get 50ml of product, which for the size it is is alright, but if we look at the price (it retails at about 22,000 won here), it’s definitely not the cheapest mist RE: volume. You’re not going to get a huge amount of use out of 50ml – I used to have the Nature Republic Bee Venom mist, which is the same size for the smallest can, and it lasted me about 3 weeks. I was glad I only paid 7000 won for that. It all depends on how often you spray it, and the quality of the product, which I will get to.

When you spray the mist, it comes out super fine, making it feel really soothing and cooling. Some mists almost whack you in the face with a burst of liquid, so I really enjoy spraying this on my face. It’s like a thin film of light serum, which is both pleasant to spray on the skin and easier for the skin to absorb quickly. This means it’s good for a quick moisture boost and works well as a make-up setting spray, as I find some sprays with their liquid jets play havoc with my eye make-up.

Regarding make-up setting, this mist works very well. I chose to try it day on, day off, so I could see the difference between wearing make-up with the mist and how my make-up wore without it. My make-up lasted really well, I have to say. I’m also currently having really good skin days, but this mist made them even better skin days. I felt the additional glow, coming from the fine moisture it provides, but likely because of the ingredients it contains, too.

This mist contains Korean pearl extract, as do all products in the Pure Pearlisation line. Pearl extract is often used in brightening and anti-aging products, because it contains actives (acids) and anti-oxidants that slow down the aging process and keep moisture locked into your skin. Other notable ingredients include niacinamide, again for brightening and moisture, and seaweed extract, rich in vitamins and minerals, and often used in soothing/calming products as it relieves irritated skin. Below is a full list of ingredients:

Water, glycerin, butylene glycol, niacinamide, alcohol denat, pearl extract, codium tomentosum extract, enteromorpha compressa extract, kelp extract, ecklonia cava extract, gelidium cartilagineum extract, laminaria japonica extract, sea whip extract, chlorella vuglaris extract, spirulina platensis extract, polyglyceryl-2 oleate, PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil, glyceryl stearate, ceteareth-12, octyldodeceth-16, ceteareth-20, cetearyl isononanoate, cetyl palmitate, cyclopentasiloxane, ethylhexylglycerin, adenosine, dimethicone, sodium citrate, hydrogenated lecithin, dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone crosspolymer, sucrose distearate, citric acid, caprylil glycol, 1.2 hexanediol, cetearyl alcohol, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, fragrance (parfum).

The extracts in there such as spirulina and chlorella contain amino acids and vitamins, so you may have heard of health junkies putting them in smoothies or swallowing them in tablet form, but these things that are good for your body on the inside are also good for your skin. I won’t break down each and every extract, but many of the ones listed here perform similar functions to the aforementioned seaweed extract and pearl. Rich in antioxidants, with the properties of soothing, anti-irritant, and anti-aging…which is exactly what Klavuu boast with this product!

There is also some fragrance in there which may put people off, but it isn’t strong at all and to be honest I’m glad it’s in there – some mists I’ve used just smell of pure aerosol, or very synthetic. This one smells slightly citrus-y and fresh, a light smell that is not at all overpowering.

I have used a fair few mists in my time and I have to say this is one of the better ones. Yes, it hydrates my skin and help my make-up last longer, which many of them do…but you want your skincare to be something more than that. This mist gives your skin that extra oopmh. You really feel that it is actually doing something more for your skin than just being something to spray on it to keep your moisture barrier up. I think this mist has been perfect for me in colder weather, but I would shy away from it in summer. While I love the thin film and think that would be perfect in hotter climates, I don’t feel that it would be right for my already sweaty skin come July and August. I obviously haven’t tested it out in summer, so perhaps it isn’t fair of me, but I feel I would end up looking a little on the oilier side if I used this over make-up in heat.

I wanted to take pictures but nothing really turned out well – it’s hard to take pictures of a mist and the effects, but here’s one of me after application so you can at least see the glow-factor!

I would definitely purchase this for winter, but more as a treat if I felt my skin really needed it (with the price tag it’s difficult to justify using it all day every day). My skin has been pretty dry this year but with extra hydration and special care, including this mist, it’s looking better than it has done in a long time. So despite the price being a little more than I would normally pay for a small volume of product, it has convinced me. Finally, a mist with a kick!
